Profile

Prof. Zhiyong Fan is a Chair Professor at HKUST. He received B.S. and M. S. degrees from Fudan University, China, PhD degree from University of California, Irvine then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley. He joined HKUST in 2010. Currently, he is the Co-director of the State Key Laboratory of Display and Opto-Electronics at HKUST. He is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Fellow of Optical Society of America, Academician of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials, Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering and founding member of Young Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong. His research interest is focused on functional nanomaterials and structures for electronic, optoelectronic and bionic electronic devices, bionic sensors for robotics, etc. Till date, he has published over 270 research papers in top journals including Nature, Nature Photonics, Nature Electronics, etc., with google scholar citations >35,000. He has won a number of awards, including 2022 Tencent Xplorer Prize, 2022 Bank of China Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Prize, etc.
