Professor Lin was President of ITRI (1988-94), the leading Taiwan R&D institution for industrial technology. During his tenure, ITRI successfully transferred high-tech including: microelectronics, notebook pc, composite materials, specialty chemicals, pollution control, energy efficient materials and systems, to accelerate Taiwan’s transformation to the knowledge based economy.At HKUST (1997-2007), he focused on strengthening university research infrastructure, establishing entrepreneurship and university-industry collaborations. He led the Nansha IT Park Program to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Pearl River Delta region.He was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, recipient of the Third World Academy TWNSO Technology Prize, Outstanding CIE-USA Achievement Award, and twice chairman of the Global Innovation Forum of Salzburg Seminar.
