Prof. J.G. TENG elected Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) 2017

Prof. Teng Jin-guang, Hon. Secretary of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences and Chair Professor of Structural Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU),has recently been elected a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The highest national academic title in science and technology, the CAS membership is given to those who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of science and technology in China.

Professor Teng has conducted research for more than three decades on a wide range of topics across the broad field of structural engineering, including the structural use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in construction and steel & thin-walled structures. Many of his research findings have been adopted by relevant design codes and guidelines in China, the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and Australia. His research contributions have been recognized by many awards and prizes, including the State Natural Science Award of China, Distinguished Young Scholar Award from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the IIFC Medal from the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC), and the State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Professor Teng’s current research interest lies mainly in the innovative combination of structural materials, particularly emerging structural materials such as FRP composites, high-strength steel and ultra-high performance concrete, to achieve high-performance structures.
