Profile

Prof. Zhao Jiong is currently a Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University in 2012. Dr. Zhao is a co-founder of the Atomic Electron Microscopy Centre at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, established in 2023 within the University’s UMF.
His research focuses on materials science and engineering, particularly in the areas of electronic materials, nanomechanics, materials synthesis and manufacturing, nanomaterials, and nanotechnology. He has made significant contributions to the control and fabrication of ultra-thin films, and has pioneered novel techniques for measuring physical properties at the nanoscale.
Dr. Zhao has received numerous prestigious awards, including the NSFC Distinguished Scientist Award, the NSFC Excellent Young Scientist Award, and the RGC Research Fellowship.
