Professor Chao Zhou is an Associate Professor and the Tsui Tack Kong Young Scholar in Civil Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has received a number of prestigious awards, including the State Natural Science Award from the State Council of China, the Natural Science Award from the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, the Huang Wenxi - Chen Zongji Geomechanics Youth Award from the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and the Bright Spark Lecture Award from the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. He was awarded the Excellent Young Scientists Fund of NSFC. He is currently an associate editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal and Vadose Zone Journal. He is the vice-chairman of the academic committee of the World Transport Convention, Geotechnical Engineering Discipline.
